Being Heard is a collaborative project between Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) and the International Centre, University of Bedfordshire. Funded by the Oak Foundation, the goal of Being Heard is in two parts: 1) to promote ethical and meaningful participation of young people who have conducted research on sexual violence in SVRI Forum 2017; and 2) to undertake a review of participatory research on sexual violence with children and young people. The project acknowledges that the priorities and perspectives of youth and adult researchers may diverge due to differences in the level and nature of experiences some of which are connected to inter-generational differences. At the same time, youth can be powerful agents of change by contributing new perspectives on issues affecting youth and adolescents.
This video seeks to put forward a set of minimum standards and recommendations related to the inclusion and participation of young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 at SVRI Forum 2017 and related events. It is meant to serve as a guide to organisations, conference organisers, researchers, programmers, donors and activists wanting to include young people at international events and consultations.
