FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

for

service productions

  • What does South Africa offer in terms of film infrastructure and locations?
With a robust film industry and famously welcoming people, you will find what you need in South Africa. We have highly skilled crews and technical infrastructure that includes studios, gear rental facilities and post-production houses. Our diverse locations offer the world in one place from the winelands to the towering mountains, pristine beaches and dunes, sprawling cities and hundreds of architectural styles. Whether you need a high-end villa, a desert location or adrenaline-filled activities, we’ve got you covered.
  • When is the best time to shoot in South Africa?
The best time to shoot in South Africa depends on what you’re looking for and it’s possible to shoot year-round in various parts of South Africa. But generally: Cape Town and the Western Cape: Best in summer (November to March) for sunny, dry weather and long days. Johannesburg and the Highveld: Ideal in winter (May to August) for clear, dry days. Durban and KwaZulu-Natal: Great in winter (May to August) for warm, dry weather, although summers are hot and humid. The regional diversity between lush vegetation and sandy plains provides filmmakers with a range of options and backdrops. Each season offers unique advantages depending on your project’s needs!
  • How cost effective is filming in South Africa?
In a nutshell: very. The weaker Rand (ZAR) against the USD / EURO / GBP makes local film shoots cost-effective for foreign productions budgeted in their own currencies. Even though travel costs are a factor for international crews to consider, South Africa's advantages make up for it. The country boasts a skilled workforce, solid infrastructure, and easy communication in English, all of which make us a strong contender for your shoot.
  • Do you work in other southern African countries?
We can also help your production come to life in both Namibia and Botswana.
  • Do I need a work visa?
You’ll need permission to film in South Africa, but don’t worry—we’ve got your back! We’ll make sure the whole process is smooth and speedy, and we’ll guide you every step of the way.
  • Can you assist with remote filming?
We sure can and have helped our clients achieve their filming goals, especially when borders were closed during COVID-19. We have an experienced team of local directors and DOPs who can offer remote filming solutions to suit your project.
  • I am a journalist or one-man band / one-woman show. Can you help me?
As documentary filmmakers with a journalistic background, we can assist no matter how big or small the ask. We help with research, access, permissions and remote filming.
  • Do you do brand and promotional videos ?
If you have a clear video brief, or just know that you need a video, we are here to help. Our creative team will develop the best approach to succinctly and creatively communicate your message, developing the best outcome for your budget. We can tell your story through a variety of means that could include: testimonials, emotive interviews, narrative storytelling, motion graphics, animation, drone footage, and beautiful cutaways that capture the essence of your brand. If there’s something we’ve missed or you’re not sure of the best video use for your organisation we’d love to help. Shoot us an email or WhatsApp and we’ll be in touch.
  • How else can you support my brand or organisation?
We can also help with video needs beyond marketing your organisation. We do training videos for internal training, staff onboarding or as a training product that you can sell. For academic institutions we can assist with knowledge dissemination as an impact goal of your research — let us create a captivating film that will ensure audience retention. We also work with copywriters, graphic designers and web designers if you need a full brand overhaul to tie in with your video needs. Together, we identify the final result you want to achieve, from here we spec out the project, requirements and content needed.
  • Are film production services expensive?
Having winning video content is key to maintaining a strong online presence for your brand. We believe that every business should have access to professional video content. We ensure affordability and cater our ideation and approach to suit your budget.
  • How much input do you need from me?
In short, you can be involved as much or as little as you like! At a minimum, we like to ensure that we have a detailed initial brief at the beginning of the project to ensure that we are well-equipped to deliver your film project. However, we are always delighted when clients want to be more involved in the production process! Whether that’s sharing your vision to help with the initial planning process, getting involved with scriptwriting or featuring in the video yourself — we’d love to have you on board! After all, you know your business best, so client involvement helps us to ensure that we showcase your organisation at its best angle and we can have a good bit of fun too!
